Mendez in Tamazula and Michoacan

Hi Linda,

I have noticed all the Mendez from Tamazula, Ciudad Guzman and surrounding areas come from the Mendez
de Torres in Zamora, Michoacan. Some years ago I learned south eastern Jalisco was part of the Obispado
de Michoacan. As for this family I do remember seeing them in the records put did not jot them down,
I was after our direct line, which I successfully did with the help of a cousin in Mexico City, yourself, Mariano Gonzalez-Leal
and scrolling through lots of mircrofilm. There were two Mendez families in Michoacan, Mendez de Torres
and Mendez de Guzman. For the most part sites like Valle de Santiago, Leon, Guanajuato, Peruandiro,
Zamora, Tlazazalca, Jacona, Morelia were heavy populated with Mendez de Torres. I plan to finish extracting
the spanish from Tlazazalca and Zamora soon. The project was from the 1600s to the independence.

I remember when I visited my grandfather Martin in Mexico he had told us that the Mendez came over the
Sierra from Zamora, Michoacan and that they were Portuguese. This was true as I soon discovered.
