I have been doing research on my fathers family (Asebes) since June 03. Now I have run into a brickwall with Ricardo de Asebes and his wife Ana Maria de Hortis. They are my 4th great grandparents. I cannot find any information about them in the Familysearch program. I have copies of their son, Dionicio/Leonicio (my 3rd great grandfather) and their daughter Maria Quirina, marriages, where it states that they were married (each 2 times) in Nochistlan, Zac. His marriages were in 1799 and 1804, and hers in 1803 and 1820. It also says that he was "originario del Puerto del Arroyo Hondo". We cannot read where she was from. My husband is from Tonala, Jal. and helps me translate. On those records are the names of Ana and Ricardo only, no grandparents. Also I cannot find any birth/baptismal records for Dionicio or Quirina. I would appreaciate any help.
I am also trying to figure out how to submit my Family Tree.

Help with Arroyo Hondo

Rickie,

Have you requested the Informacion Matrimonial for the year or years in which they may have been married? These are great sources of information when you can't find who the parents were of the bride and groom on a marriage record.

For that time period between the late 1700's early 1800's, there is an Arroyo Hondo within the municipality of Nochistlan which is presently between Jalpa Zac and Calvillo Aguascalientes, close to Tepezala ouside of Jalpa. I believe that into the 1900's it is no longer part of Nochistlan but I could be wrong. I have many of my Jauregui's that were from Arroyo Hondo.

Where it appears to say Puerto de Arroyo Hondo it may be punto de Arroyo Hondo. I too have been confused at times with what looks to be Puerto. I go through other records in that same film to see how it's written and I have found it to be punto not puerto(port). I have multiple magnifying lenses that I use once I've copied the record. I then take the record and print the section that is in question at least 25% larger, or more if necessary to make out the specific lettering. Always compare the letters to adjacent records on that roll of film so you can become familiar with the handwriting in question. Remember, the scribes or priests usually were not from that town, they would arrive green into new towns and impose their own interpretations on names of towns, ranchos, haciendas etc.

I hope this helps,
Alicia Carrillo, San Jose, Calif

Alice - Thank you for your prompt answer. I have only searched on-line. I will order the films this week. We saw that it says "Punto de Arroyo Hondo" on Ma.Quirinas' marriage records, but we thought the word was "puerto". We check-out the films the same way you do. About the different spellling of last names - I have found at least 7 different Asebes spellings.
