Haro
Hi, there. I just recently sent in my DNA test and do not really know what the next step is. I'm not sure if I will be contacted or if I need to call. Anyway, even if the Haro is on my mother's side, is that like checking the Haro for HER paternal side? I truly do not know how this works. Do you have any Haro lines that you are researching?

Haro DNA

If you are using FamilyTree DNA, you will be getting an email and then a packet of information in about six weeks from when you sent in your sample.
If you sent in your own DNA for testing, the only lineage it can be tested for is mtDNA (mitochondrial) which traces your mother's mother's mother... Females do not have Y chromosomes and therefore cannot use their own cells for Y-DNA testing.
If your mother's father was an Haro and you wanted to trace that Haro paternal lineage, you would need to have one of her brothers (or one of her brothers' sons) tested. I have been able to get five lineages by having relatives do tests for me:
1. My own YDNA - my father's father's father...
2. My own mtDNA - my mother's mother's mother...
3. My father's mtDNA - my father's mother's mother...
4. My first cousin (son of my mother's brother) 's YDNA - my mother's father's father...
5. My second-cousin (son of the son of the son of my #10 ancestor)'s YDNA - my father's mother's father's father...
Both of the maternal lines have come back indigenous and all three of the paternal lines have come back European.
Haro DNA
Wow. OK, well, I think I'm on the wrong path, then. Well, maybe not exactly, but I sent mine to a place called Sorenson Labs. I guess they're working on a worldwide project and so I sent my free test in. I will find out about the other ones and will do as you suggested. I will ask one of my Haro cousins to submit the test once I find the right one.

Sorenson Molecular Genealogy

Sorenson Molecular Genealogy is collecting a database of DNA along with genealogies to match up with the DNA in their database. They ask for volunteers who have compiled their own genealogies and are willing to donate their DNA sample but because of the confidentiality requirements they have for their project, they do not communicate the results to the volunteers. You can look them up yourself on their database by surname, though I submitted mine over a year ago and they still have not shown up. I don't know if my genealogy was not acceptable or what...
