I hope someone can help me, I have reached a dead end. In what town can I find records of people living in Tepesalilla, Baqueria, Huejucar and Ojocaliente, Aguascalientes, in 1700 t0 1750? The Calvillo records do not go back that far. I have tried El Sagrario, Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes with no luck. Thanks.

My mother's family were from Aguascalientes and (the valley of Huejucar). This area I learned was made up of not only Calvillo, but also other places like Tabasco, Jalpa and other nearby towns. The people who began populating this area heavily in the mid 1700s came from all over the area, most notably: Aguascalientes, Nochistlan, Teocaltiche, Juchipila, Villanueva, Tlatenango, El Tuel, Moyahua, etc. This area is so sticky there is bound to be trial and error.

What lines do you have? We may be related.

i am researching a velasco line of francisco velasco and antonia bedoya, they started having children in 1760. i believe they were related to joseph belasco and maria de san juan esparza. i have tried some of the areas you mentioned and some i have not so i appreciate your input. when i first joined my initial family file was misplaced for about a year. but my info is under irma velasco if you would like to see it. i have alot of other names but have not sent in a current gedcom thank you for your help.

I have the same question--what church records should one look for pre-1750 information? People from Jalpa, Tabasco, Calvillo moved in-and-out of ranchos/pueblos/villas/ciudades quite frequently. My father tells me that people in La Villita would go looking for work around Calvillo. He never wondered why they went there instead of other places, but I told him that probably this was because one his of great-grandfathers is from around Calvilo.

Would you recommend looking in all of the churches in Aguascalientes city? Or is there a particular church different people would go to depending on their social-economic status, rural/urban dwellers, labradores/land owneres, etc?

I also have the same question for Tabasco--there are no records before 1747. What was the designated church for Tabasco before this time?

Based on my own experience, I would really say it depends. The area of Tabasco, Jalpa, Huanusco, people would move in and out. There was a huge tendancy to go to Calvillo or come from Calvillo. Before 1772, Calvillo was under the jurisdiction of Aguascalientes, until it became it own parish. There were people from all over, Tlatenango, Villanueva, Colotlan, Teocaltiche, Juchipila, Nochistlan, Calvillo. Any of these places would be a good bet. Try to find any clues where your oldest ancestor was from. If he was married say 1760 and it says he was from Teocaltiche, but married in Tabasco, then Teocaltiche would be a good start. The borders constantly changed and thus it makes things a bit more difficult. Especially when new parishes were created, annexed, or combined or when jurisdictions changed.
