Does anyone know if there are "town historians" in Mexico and how to contact them? It looks like my father's Becerra line moved about between Atotonilco el Alto, Purisima del Ricon, and San Juan de los Lagos. The fact that they traveled between the three cities during the late 1800s, is surprising. I'd love to be able to find out more than the standard historic overview of the area and it's people.

Yes, they are referred to as "cronistas", but I can't tell you if most towns have one.   As writing in Spanish (not reading) is a barrier for me, I requested someone, please locate and contact the cronista for me in
a Zacatecas town.  The family info I received, including newspaper articles, was invaluable.

Hi there,
Look up the town in google and usually the town will have thier own web site . If they do , some of them will show the name of the person that is the CRONISTA or the HISTORIAN .
Try this , its worth a shot .

Purisima del Rincon had someone directly on their municipal website: M.C. Héctor Francisco Cienfuegos Frausto, Director Archivo Histórico Municipal.

He responded very quickly, and while he may not locate additional information on my family, information about the region during that time period would be very interesting.

For Atotonilco el Alto, there is a cronista who was recently given an award for his work - El Cronista Profr. Luis Orozco. I haven't been able to locate information to contact him directly, but sent an e-mail to the Atotonilco el Alto municipal site requesting contact information.
