  • Finding Gabriel Chavez
By Amundson0826 | Thu, 2009-08-20 21:57

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the site and wish to introduce myself and my quest for information on my husband's family in Aguascalientes. His Great Grandfather was Gabriel Chavez Martinez, who owned and operated silver mines in the Mesillas area of Tepezala, Aguascalientes. He later moved to Aguascalientes City where he owned and operated the Hotel Paris (now a government building) and the first Ford automobile agency in that city. I have been unable to trace him following his birth record, so any help you might give me would be greatly appreciated. Carol Adams-Ramos

Esposas de Gabriel Chavez

Gabriel Chavez had 4 esposas! First Maria Vicenta Peralta on 5 Aug 1880, then Eustacia Peralta on 4 Jul 1888, then Gerbacia Medina on 13 Feb 1893 and last Refugio Araiza on 29 Jul 1895. Each spouse died before the next marriage. Thank you for asking! Carol Adams-Ramos

Gabriel Chavez's wives

Carol:

Welcome to the group! Some questions for you... where did you get the information on your husband's great-grandfather's wives? You seem to have the exact dates, but did not mention the locations of the weddings. If you know where the weddings took place, the first marriage record should list Gabriel Chavez's parents, place of birth and age. That would give you some very valuable clues on where to find his baptism record or one of his sibling's baptism records which would then provide their grandparents' names and you would be back another two generations.

Gabriel Chavez's wives

Carol:

Gabriel Chavez's last marriage to Refugio Araiza appears on familysearch.org in the IGI in Asientos, Aguascalientes (batch number M019875). It shows his parents' names were Pedro Chavez and Maria Medina. The other marriages appear in the familysearch.org pilot and show his mother's name variously as Maria or Aniceta Medina.

There is a baptism record for Jose Gabriel Chavez on 25 Mar 1860 in the familysearch.org pilot born to Pedro Chavez and Maria Medina in Asientos, Aguascalientes (batch number I066681). I am pretty sure this is your man. You should be able to pull up the image of the baptism record on the familysearch.org pilot site (since it is in Aguascalientes) and find the grandparents' names.

Gabriel had at least two siblings:
- Jose Chavez Medina baptized 25 Mar 1862 in Asientos
- Jose Macedonio Chavez baptized 14 Sep 1864 in Asientos, married to Fernanda Nino 12 Nov 1884 in Asientos
