The Family History library catalog does not list church records for Juchipila, Zacatecas prior to 1814. I'm looking for the record of Ygnacio Ocampo baptized in Moyahua or Contitlan abt. 1764 (married to Eugenia Carrillo).

How would I locate these records?
Thanks for any information, Roxanne Ocampo

Ygnacio Ocampo (or Campos)

Roxanne, it appears that we have a common ancestor. Ygnacio Ocampo and Eugenia Carrillo are direct ancestors on my mother's side. I have found records listing Ygnacio as either Ocampo or Campos. Based on the date you posted and because Jerez is in the vicinity of Juchipila, I thought maybe this may be what you are looking for. Please let me know what you think. I would also love to compare notes.

Ignacio Ocampo (Campos) & Eugenia Carrillo

Hello Roxanne and Esther. I'm also a descendant of Ignacio Ocampo (Campos) & Eugenia Carrillo! They are my 5th great-grandparents. Sadly, due to the missing Juchipila records, we can't know for sure if the Ignacio from Jerez is our same Ignacio, but I can tell you that I have seen the Moyahua census records for 1813, 1823 and 1828 (originally recorded by the Church and currently housed in the Zacatecas State Archives) and I found OUR Ignacio & Eugenia listed as follows:

EUGENIA CARRILLO
listed in Moyahua padron 1813 - no age listed
listed in Moyahua padron 1823 - aged 50
listed in Moyahua padron 1828 - aged 58
*note* it has been my experience that the census records were almost never accurate about ages, I don't think it was that important the them in the ranchos at that time - somehow they lost track of how old they were and only guesstimated.

IGNACIO OCAMPO
listed in Moyahua padron 1813 - no age listed
listed in Moyahua padron 1823 - aged 61 *which would make his birth year 1762 - same as record from Jerez*

He must have died between 1823 and 1828 because Eugenia is listed as widow in 1828.

Also, you should know that IGNACIO OCAMPO was one of the 12 founders of Moyahua, Zacatecas, per a document dated 30 Dec 1808, also found in the State Archives in Zacatecas City. Here's the reference:
AHEZ (archivo historico estado zacatecas)
fondo: tierras y aguas
serie: tierras
expediente: 563

Good luck and please let me know if you guys make further discoveries on this couple.

Thank you for sharing that piece of historical data! I have been working on my family's genealogy for the past 10 years, but have not come across anything as interesting as this!

Initially, I thought maybe we were related on the Reynoso side as well, but based on the data you previously posted, no relationship appears to exist. I would be interested in learning more about your research as well as share information.

Thank you again,
-Esther Reynoso Valencia

Thank you for that lead. I remember several years back making contact with Irene Sweet in regards to the Reynoso's in Zacatecas. At the time, we did not talk about the Ocampo's. As a matter of fact, she is a member of this group. She may not be receiving notifications, but I'm sure she can still be contacted by looking her up.

It has been many years since you and I last touched base! I hope your search is going well!

Sincerely,
-Esther Reynoso Valencia (also Luna!)

Irene Sweet Records

Hi, Irene...you can find the info under Family Search, all sources; enter Ygnacio Ocamps, mexico; his name will be the first one on the list; click on family to see all their children; click on submitter to see Irene Sweet's info...sounds like you may have a connection with her family. Had my DNA tested, and the Lunas seem to come from West Europe. Strange...........tu primo, Raul
