Films from Familysearch.org

The folks at familysearch.org are working hard to get more images of Mexican records online, though only a small percentage of them has been digitized so far. However, relevant information from many filmed records has been extracted and can be searched online. (Some volunteers here at Nuestros Ranchos recently formed a team that is extracting data from several parishes in Jalisco.)

In the next few years many more records from all over the world that the LDS has micofilmed over the past sixty years will be extracted and will be searchable online, and with luck, most record images will be online too. But for a few more years, most records will still only be viewable on microfilm.

The microfilms, by the way, are NOT free. FIlms may be ordered from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City for a 6 week loan at any Family History Center for $5.50 each, and can be used only at the FHC. Any film renewed twice, for $5.50 and 6 weeks each time, then remains on permanent loan at that Family History Center.

Please see my profile for my Jalisco surnames. Also researching in San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas.
