Hola Members, if possible I need some understanding of Geronima Bernavides, wife of Francisco Paez.( In the book of Jose Luis Vazquez "Genealogia de Nochistlan" chapters 22 and 59.) In chapter 59 ,page 197 it states that Geronima Benavides is the daughter of Jeronimo Benavides and Catalina Cortes. In chapter 22,page 80 it states that Geronima Benvides is the daughter of Catalina Cortes (de quien se desconoce en nombre de su esposo). I am puzzled ,maybe my deficiency of the spanish language, I don't know. Another question -is besides Geronima Benavides, is Luis Benavides ,Catalina Cortes and Juan de Benavides siblings and from Jeronimo Benavides and Catalina Cortes.
thank you for your time

Geronima de Benavides

In my research I have come across a Geronima de Benavides that is married to Gonzalo Yanez. Is this Geronima the same one mentioned in the dispensa of Thomas Paez and Francisca Torres? According to this dispensa, Geronima Benavides was the sister of Maria Benavides married to Carlos Lomelin. I too, wonder what the connection is between Geronima Benavides, Luis Benavides and Catalina Cortes?
According to another marriage record, Gaspar Lomelin (son of Lucas de Lomelin and Josepha Macias de Torres) and Maria de Medininlla y Arambulo (daughter of Diego Gonzalez de Arambulo and Mariana Yanez and who was widowed from Nicolas de Carbajal), were married Jan 15, 1679 in Nochistlan. The record also states these two were related by consanguinity in 5 degrees. The matrimonial information goes into further detail, but the document is hard to understand. The document states that Maria de Medinilla y Arambulo was the daughter of Diego de Arambulo (married to Mariana Yanez), bastard son of Geronimo Arambulo. The groom, Gaspar de Lomelin was the son of Lucas de Lomelin (married to Josepha Macias Torres) who we know was the son of Maria de Benavides (married to Carlos Lomelin). Nicolas Carbajal the deceased husband of Maria de Medinilla and Arambulo, was the son of Jacinta de Oliva. From other information I have found, I know that Jacinta de Oliva was married to Juan Carbajal on June 26, 1633 and she was the daughter of Geronima de Benavides and Gonzalo Yanez.
How they are all related, I cannot make out.
Can one infer from this that Luis Benavides, Catalina Cortes, and Geronima de Benavides were siblings? Or is Luis Benavides father of Catalina and Geronima? And from the dispensa mentioned earlier is Maria Benavides sister of Geronima and Catalina? And finally does anyone understand or know how the first three names metioned Luis de Benavides, Catalina Cortes, and Geronima de Benavides are related to Maria de Medinilla y Arambulo (bride), Gaspar de Lomelin (groom) and Nicolas de Carbajal (deceased husband of bride to be)??
Here is the link to the document: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-15188-24292-43?cc=1804458&wc…
Thanks for your attention,
Juan Ramon Jimenez

Re: Geronima de Benavides

Hello Ronnie, Daniel & Juan Ramon,

Great work here! Thanks, I've been working on the early Benavides-Cortes lines, and your posts have given me some direction.

I just posted regarding the Benavides-Cortes lines, picking apart 10 dispensas & IM's (including some posted here), and trying to reconcile them with "Retonos" & Holcombe's "Cartas": http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/23035

Hopefully, it can help resolve some of our questions. Please feel free to comment and contribute.

Gracias y saludos,
Manny Diez Hermosillo

GERONIMA BENAVIDES

Remember each dispensa is different. We have to treat each dispensa as its own individual case. I have found several errors throughout dispensas, but for the most part they are usually correct. We ought to remember, that the three witnesses might have had information that was a bit off or could not remember correctly. Some dispensas are extensive, some are very short, some include lots of information, some do not. Usually in the identifying the trunk, only the direct ancestors are mentioned and not their spouses. I have only seen spouses mentioned when it is dealing with someone important or an ultramarino.

Take this this couple Capt. Dionisio Ruiz de Cabanas who married Maria Guadalupe Solano de Estrada on 19 Sep 1812 in Guadalajara. I can't remember the exact date of the dispensa at the moment, but it mentions him as a "sobrino del Ylmo Sr. Juan de la Cruz Ruiz de Cabanas y Crespo, Arzobispo de Guadalajara". In it mentions Dionisio as a member of "
Capt. de los Voluntarios de Navarra actual propietario de la Segunda Compania del Batallon de Milicias de esta santa capital (Guadalajara). He was from Navarra, Spain, son of Capt.

Maria Guadalupe Solano de Estrada was the daughter of the very wealthy merchant, Francisco Ignacio Solano de Estrada, Mayorazgo de Zubelzu and Josefa Maria de Porres Baranda Nunez de Villavicencio who married in Guadalajara on 27 Sep 1777. It mentions she was the daughter of Capt. Bernardo Maria de Porres Baranda Nunez de Villavicencio, Mayorazgo de Porres Baranda and Alcalde Ordinario de Guadalajara de primer voto (he married 4 times) and Ana Maria Josefa Lopez de Villacorta. She was the grandaughter of Francisco de Porres Baranda Nunez de Villavicencio, Mayorazgo de Porres Baranda & Alferez Real de Guadalajara & Maria Francisca Tenorio y Valdes; Antonio Lopez de Villacorta, Alcalde Ordinario de Aguascalientes (He settled and raised his family in Aguascalientes) and Juana Gertrudis Micaela de Arteaga.

For me, this was a very important and vital dispensa. It probably has been the most extensive dispensa yet. Though, I easily pieced the genealogy together before finding it, it would have been nice to have this as guide or tool.

Geronima Benavides

Hola Members ,in guadalajaradispensas.com #167971 -image 99 is a dispensa of Tomas Paez and Francisca Torres. It makes my head spin to understand it. There might be a clue to my earlier question.

Geronima Benavides

Hi Ronald,

Hi have studied this dispensa. If I remember correctly, they are related twice. Through one of the lines they both descend as follows: Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo (m. Maria Munoz) had Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo, el mozo and Francisco Munoz de Hermosillo. Juan had Ana Gonzalez who had Francisca Sanchez Carranza who had Tomas de Paez. Francisco Munoz de Hermosillo had Micaela Gonzalez de Hermosillo who had Francisca de Torres. This resulted as a consanguinity of "Tercer con quarto".

One the other side, they both descended from Geronimo de Benavides and Catalina Cortes. This couple had Geronima de Benavides and Maria de Benavides. Geronima had Francisco de Paez wh had tomas de Paez. Maria de Benvides had Domingo de Lomelin who had Joseph de Lomelin y Mendoza who had Francisca de Torres. I believe Francisca used Torres after her maternal grandmother Francisca de Torres who married Francisco Munoz de Hermosillo, daughter of Nicolas Ramirez Tavera and Polonia de Torres.
